What's Cookin': Don't Forget the Chef

Hello! As previewed yesterday, today I'm gonna share the first design that I made with BR801 (swatch here) as base color. I made this design for a blogiversary nail contest that Khuu from Copy That, Copy Cat held. The theme was What's Cookin', and the first thing that popped in my mind after I read the theme was the chef.

instagram ver. (follow me @lenny_cheng)
the plastic bag decal
I started off with one coat of base coat then added two coat of Face Shop BR801 and Etude House WH702 on selected fingers as shown. BR801 is the perfect shade for the chef's face, no? After the base coat is dry, I started painting according to the design I've drawn beforehand. As for the white toque and the flame, I made it the night before on a plastic bag. Anutka from Wacky Laki have a great tutorial for this plastic bag decal technique here. The final product is pretty much how I wanted, if only my top coat didn't smear some of the design *deep sigh inserted*

I didn't win the contest. Like always. LOL. My main purpose in participating contest is to train myself, so I'm sure with lots of training, one day I'll win something. Haha.

What do you think of this design? Too simple for a nail-contest? What design would you came up with for What's Cookin'?
Share your thoughts on below comments.
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time.

B&W # 2: Nothing more Black and White than Charlie Chaplin

Hello!
Today, I'm gonna share you a black and white mani that was my entry for two nail-art contests I mentioned here. The title said B&W #2 because I've done a unbelievably messy BnW art before, which you can see below (click the pic to jump to the original post).

And for the nail-art competition entry:

I'm glad this time my black and white has improved. LOL. I took Charlie Chaplin themed design because he's like the legend in black-and-white silent movies, so there won't be anything or anyone more black-and-white than he is. Right? That's why I call this mani: Nothing more black and white than Charlie Chaplin. Hehe.
As you can see, it's not a complicated mani. All you need is white polish for your base, black polish to draw, striping brush to make fine lines needed for the jacket (middle finger) design, and a nail art brush (or toothpick, which is what I used). This is my first time to use my black striper, and I LOVE it!! It's just so easy to use, and helped me a lot finishing the design :D

What do you think of this design? Would you do it on your nails? If you do, please share your interpretation on my facebook page here, and if you like this post, please take time to like it (and pin it, and tweet it, lol). Thank you so much for reading. I'll see you next time :)

Colors used: Etude House Petit Darling Nails WH702 (white), Revlon Black Lingerie (Revlon), V.O.V Nail Art Pen #3 and #4 (black and white striper)

FTV: Very First Nautical

From the Vault (FTV) is a section where I post stuffs from the past. Some had been posted on my regular blog, A Two Minutes Escape (ATME), which you can visit by clicking the most right page button.

Like what I said in my previous nail-art post, here's my very first Nautical mani which I did on my toes. Hehe

I painted the base color first, then used a toothpick and dotting tools to draw the simple designs on the thumbs, before finally layered the glitters on my ring fingers for accent nails. Then of course top coat, for a glossy look :)

Since this mani came up, the next nail-art post would be it's companion for my Phuket vacation. That's my first ever sponging mani. Stay tuned for that? :D

Colors used: Pokari 8H (red), Etude House BL501 (navy), Etude House Petit Darling Nails WH702 (white), Etude House Petit Darling Nails PK003 (pink), Etude House Luci Darling Fantastic Nails #3 (tiny silver glitter), Etude House Luci Darling Fantastic Nails #4 (tiny gold glitter)

Nautical

Hey all! Finally I get to write a nail-art post.. hehe.
I'd like to share my entry for the very same competition I participated before here. Only this time the theme was Nautical. I did Nautical toes mani before for my holiday in Phuket (post about the mani coming up), so that was my first entry. LOL. Then I sketched and sketched and sketched, and finally ended up with this one for my second and final entry.

indoor
outdoor
(that thing happened again. it just won't rotate)
How I made the background color step 1: paint the base color
How I made the background color step 2: paint the second color slightly over the base

How I made the background color step 3: sponge to blend.
Here's a tutorial link to achieve this look, by pixiepolish.
Then I just started drawing according to what I've sketched, and top coat. I used toothpick since I haven't yet bought my own set of nail-art brush.
(I'm an employee with a student-pocket. Sad)

However, as much as I really wished I made it to the top 4, I still didn't make the cut. Guess I need more training and creativity to win. Anyway, here are the top 4 finalists. What do you think of their designs? Which one is your favorite? (P.S: I love D best. The idea is genius!!)

If you want to enter the competition too, first you need to install Instagram (available on iPhone and any Android mobiles) then follow @nailcompetitions and wait for her to post the weekly theme. Below is this week theme ;)

The theme is coincidentally the same as the one Berry Polished hosted. So maybe I'll enter this one also, if I can figure out which B&W design I want to do before this Friday. LOL. Visit Berry Polished facebook page here to join the competition. It will be closed on June 1st. So you still got plenty of time ;)

Colors used: Etude House Petit Darling Nails BL501 (sky blue), Etude House Petit Darling Nails WH702 (white), Etude House BL501 (navy), Etude House Matte #6 (orange), Etude House PK008 (pink), Pokari 8H (red), Revlon Golden (gold).
